ChapmanCG's Jovin Tan and Qian Yin Yap Bring Home the Gold

On 3 August, ChapmanCG employees, Jovin Tan and Qian Yin Yap, came first in the Royal Yachting Association’s (RYA) eighth Sailability Multiclass Regatta in Rutland, England. The competition took place from 1-3 August and is the largest of its type in the country, attracting sailors from around the World.

The pair came first in a fleet of ten entries in the Hansa 303 Double class, and they battled tough race conditions to achieve their victory. The cold wet weather in Rutland is not what this team from balmy Singapore is accustomed to, but they adapted well and worked hard to achieve first place.

ChapmanCG CEO, Matt Chapman, stated, “We are, as ever, proud of Jovin and QY’s winning performance at The RYA regatta in the UK. Both are committed athletes, who balance their demanding responsibilities at ChapmanCG with their sports pursuits. We look forward to seeing them go on to represent Singapore in future events.”

Jovin and QY, both in wheelchairs, have only been sailing together since December 2013, and have already had a number of positive results. This is not the team’s first international victory, and they both fervently hope it will not be the last. Their next significant competition will be the Asian Para Games in Incheon, Korea in October 2014, where they will try to achieve similar success. According to Tan, “We performed well in this competition, and QY especially deserves credit for being able to endure the windy cold conditions and still do her very best. This was an important milestone in our training for the games in Incheon, where we will put in our top effort, and hope for another win.”
