The Chapman Consulting Group Hosted Neuroscientist and Leadership Expert Dr David Rock in Singapore

Hosted by: Standard Chartered Bank

The Chapman Consulting Group (ChapmanCG) co-hosted Dr David Rock, Director of the NeuroLeadership Institute, at Standard Chartered Bank’s Learning Centre in Singapore on Thursday, July 4. The session was chaired by Matthew Chapman, CEO of ChapmanCG. Henri Parmentier, an Associate in the Singapore ChapmanCG Team was also present.

David heads up a global initiative bringing neuroscientists and leadership experts together to build a new science for leadership development. He co-edits the NeuroLeadership Journal and heads up an annual global summit. David is the author of the business best-seller ‘Your Brain at Work’ (HarperBusiness, 2009) and he blogs for the Harvard Business Review, Fortune Magazine, Psychology Today and the Huffington Post.

A wide range of industries were represented in a lively round table. There was plenty of best practice sharing and representatives from Ace Group, BlackRock, UBS, Shell, McGraw Hill, Phillips, Mondelez, Pearson and Unilever to name a few.

David’s keynote topic ‘The Neuroscience of Organisational Change’ focused the group on exploring how Neuroscience applications can transform Leadership and Change. Key takeaways included:

  • How Neuroscientists have identified two part of the brains: One part taking care of self and social awareness and another focused on goals and concepts
  • How Neuroscience applications are used to improve leadership in an ever more connected environment
  • How teams have been helped to understand that change is not a transition but a day-to-day state
  • David’s ‘Brain Change’ model which develops creation and acceptance of change through the creation of a ‘Toward State’, the facilitation of new connections and the embedding of new habits

The next Singapore HR leaders gathering will be later in October.
