This organization is a small but fast-growing player in e-commerce. It is founder-led and its leadership team is experienced, astute and collaborative. Their mission is to disrupt a highly fragmented and manual-oriented industry with a technology driven e-commerce solution. The company is global and virtual with a focus on North America as a strategic priority. It is agile, has a deep customer orientation and values a data-driven approach to work.

The Role

Reporting to the COO/CFO, this is a standalone/individual contributor role. It will direct and oversee the company’s global HR plans in ways that support its mission and overall strategy. This position has high accountability and will promote the role of strategic HR and ensure the long-term success of both HR and the business. It is a broad and varied end-to-end HR mandate. Its location is flexible within the United States and Canada, with a preference for the Central or Eastern time zones. Responsibilities will include crafting the company’s HR strategy and plans; developing and administering in-country HR plans and policies; employee relations; talent acquisition; coaching people managers; budget creation and administration; establishing and administering wage/salary structure, pay policies, performance appraisal programs, employee benefit programs/services, and company safety and health programs; payroll administration for Canada and the United States; DE&I initiatives; selection and management of external vendors; and internal reporting for the CFO/COO, CEO and leadership team using business metrics and KPIs.  

The Individual

An HR Generalist/Partner background with broad knowledge of talent acquisition, compensation, organizational planning, employee relations and training and development in Canada and the United States will be needed for this role. In addition, international expertise, particularly in talent acquisition and capability building would be viewed very favorably. This position needs a ‘builder’ — someone who has built talent and capability; and established and evolved culture across an organization; and who thrives in environments where the pace of change is fast and agility is critical. The right individual should therefore marry both strategic and tactical skills with a high EQ and excel in stakeholder management. Candidates for this role would have a knowledge of best HR practice and a proven ability to excel in rapid-growth small- to mid-cap environments. Deep experience in e-commerce is a ‘must have’. Experience in the apparel industry would be a major plus. A demonstrated record of success in startups or small companies is a strong preference. Being comfortable working in a virtual environment is crucial and a bachelor’s degree is required.
