Global HR Leaders Briefing Series Finishes its Q1 2012 Leg in Copenhagen

Hosted by: Maersk

The Chapman Consulting Group’s Global HR Briefing series for Quarter 1 2012 has finished its March 2012 leg in Copenhagen this morning, with an entertaining two hours of discussion at the headquarters of Maersk. The briefing series, which concentrated on HR trends in APAC and Emerging Markets, included four other sessions in London, Milan, Zurich and Amsterdam. The Copenhagen event was supported by Global HR Leaders from Maersk, Danisco, Dako, Universum, Statoil, SimCorp, Nokia, Lego, SSAB, Vestas, Lundbeck and others.

Speaking about the Global HR Leader series, Matthew Chapman, CEO of The Chapman Consulting Group, said its been very useful spending time with Europe-based Global HR Heads to hear how they are dealing with current and future growth trends in HR in Asia Pacific and Emerging Markets. “Everyone we met with was hungry for the latest thinking in Asia Pacific and Emerging Markets on shaping HR structures, retaining and attracting HR talent, and striking the right balance between centralised and decentralised decision-making”. “There is a fast-emerging trend that more organisations are decentralising control and either moving HR decision-making gradually to Emerging Markets or inputting emerging HR talent into global decision making”, said Chapman. “No longer can HR decisions just be made at headquarter level and cascaded down into these fast growing regions”, noted Chapman.

“High potential HR talent out in the Emerging Markets needs to feel aligned with the top line strategy, otherwise they will desert and leave for companies that offer this”, added Chapman. He went on to say that companies who are managing to do this are experiencing better HR retention and greater accountability for HR decision-making in Emerging Markets.

Global HR Leaders will reconvene in the United States, in New York, Philadelphia and Boston, in May 2012 for the Quarter 2 leg of the Global HR Briefing Series for further discussion on Asia Pacific and Emerging Markets HR issues. “We have confirmed that LexisNexis, Thomson Reuters and GlaxoSmithKline will host some of these sessions”, said Stefanie Cross-Wilson, International President of The Chapman Consulting Group, “And we are aiming to share world class practices on HR management in these regions”.
